How recipients opt in to text alerts

Every person who receives an Emergency Safety Planning text has confirmed it themselves. Their organization's word is not enough.

  1. 1

    The organization lists the person

An administrator adds the person to the organization's emergency response roster with their mobile number and email address. Nothing is texted to them at this point.

  2. 2

We email the person a consent link

The person receives an email titled “Confirm emergency text alerts from [organization]” with a private link to the page shown below.

  3. 3

    The person opts in themselves

They tick the unchecked consent box and press “Yes, text me alerts”. Only then can that number receive texts. “No thanks” turns texts off. Calls and email are separate.

  4. 4

Consent is bound to the number

The time of consent and the number confirmed are recorded. If the number is later changed, texts are held again until the new number is confirmed the same way. Replying STOP to any text opts out at once.
